Pot Marigold is an old world flower, grown since at least the 12th century.  Reading old reference books you may find mentioned Marigold which is in fact not what we call Marigolds today; they were actually referring to Calendula. Calendula is native to Mediterrainean countries. Dried petals used in ointments and creams have a very healing effect on the skin,; used to improve skin hydration and firmness. Calendula belongs to the same family as daisies, chrysanthemums, and ragweed.

Planting Directions: Sow indoors 6-8 weeks prior to last frost or direct seed outdoors in early spring, late fall or early summer for fall bloom in regions with cool summers. Plant seed ¼” deep with soil temperature of 70°. Seed germinates in 6 to 14 days. Transplant seedlings to garden after last frost in full sun or light shade where summers are very hot. Plant in soil amended with compost or a general garden fertilizer.   Pinch back young plants to encourage bushy growth thus more blossoms.
