Smyrnium olustatrum. Perennial. 18".
Bears strong stemmed yellow green flowers in umbels early to mid-summer, followed by black aromatic seed.
Cultivation requirements are the same as celery.
Pliny considered this plant an important food in the first century. A.D. .
Use the fresh and cooked roots, fresh stems, buds, leaves and the spicy seeds.

Planting Directions:  Sow seed indoors 10 weeks before last frost date. Needs light to germinate, so barely cover the seed. Soil temperature for best germination is 70˚ and soil temperature for best growth is 60-70˚. Transplant outdoors when day temperatures are stay above 55˚ and night temperatures are above 40˚. Plant in rich soil that has been amended with a good amount of rich organic matter. Keep Black Lovage weed free and water as needed to keep soil moist but not soggy. Side dress with fish emulsion or similar product every 2-3 weeks throughout the growing season for best production.
