Border Mix for Bees, Butterflies and Beneficials

  Larger image

A flowering seed mixture to plant on the boundary of a vegetable garden. The purpose: to attract bees, butterflies and beneficial insects (predators) all through the summer. This easy and low impact way of gardening with nature encourages good pollination when far fewer bees exist in the wild. It will also provide nectar and pollen for bees, certain butterflies, and beneficial insects. This colorful mixture contains some herbs and flowers to pick or otherwise enjoy while developing a natural habitat. This mixed border takes little space and makes good use of those boundary areas that are hard to maintain. No, that space on the edge doesn’t need to be weeded, it’s an ecologically friendly border for bees, butterflies and beneficials. It also allows the weary gardener a chance to catch a breath and not fastidiously maintain every square inch. Sow in the spring as early as ground can be prepared. These eighteen varieties have been selected to provide a long season of bloom and grow well when directly sown from seed. Most will self-sow, a few types will not flower until the second season. contains: For Bees: Anise Hyssop, Borage, Catmint, Cleome, Mignonette, Phacelia tanacetifolia. For Butterflies: Cosmos, Dill, Fennel, Italian Parsley, Marigold, Showy Milkweed.
