Cerinthe is described in Gerard's 16th century herbal as having flowers suitable for sipping honey. Long forgotten, it is making a comeback in the 21st century as gardeners treasure the intriguing tubular blue flowers and the blueish green foliage on this 12" plant. No known medicinal or culinary uses. Self sows but not a garden pest. Also known as Blue Shrimp Plant.

Planting Directions:  Sow outdoors in early to late spring only in regions of cool summers. Start seed indoors in sterile seed starting mix 6 to 8 weeks before last frost. Plant seed 1/8” deep with a soil temperature of 65° to 75°. If seed does not germinate in 20 days, reduce temperature to 25°-40° for 3 to 4 weeks then return to normal germinating temperature of 65°to 75°. Transplant well after last frost in light shade to full sun. In hot areas protect from summer afternoon sun. Cerinthe likes moist, humus rich soil that is well drained. Add compost to planting site prior  to transplanting. Water regularly especially during dry spells. Mulch soil in spring to provide cool, moist soil.
